Through her dream-like paintings of the Sonoran Desert, Paez reconnects with her ancestral relationship to nature. Around the Saguaro exhibition at SpacemakerII consisted of installation and paintings that had been in the works since early 2019. The exhibit revolved around the artist’s healing and spiritual growth when reflecting on the homeland of  her grandmother. Paez uses painting as a form of storytelling, offering an insight into lost narratives where nature is interacted with in a spiritual and healing way. Using vivid colour palettes against nocturnal backdrops, Around the Saguaro offers an immersive, intimate access to a world of lost and reclaimed stories where nature and spirit meet. Around the Saguaro explores themes of migration, nature as medicinal, and traditional stories. The saguaro cactus is a species native to the Sonoran Desert and acted as a central point in the exhibition in which Paez's dream-like worlds of unfolded.
